Summertime calls for adventures, vacations, and parties. We would like to take a look at some ways to stay sober while still having fun during summer 2017.
- Plan adventures
Planning adventures is a great way to have something to look forward to in the summer. There are many ways to go on adventures without breaking the bank. Take a hike, go to your local state park, or plan a camping trip. This is also a great way to get outside of your comfort zone by inviting people from your program to come with you. You can make new friends while also having a great time outdoors.
- Always have a sober friend with you
If you are going to be at a party that may make you feel out of your comfort zone, bring a fellow sober friend. You can use one another as accountability and also have someone to keep you company. This is a great way to be sure that you will not slip up at a party scene while having a great time with your friend.
- Achieve new fitness goals
The summertime is a great for being outdoors and trying new things. Make some health goals for yourself such as walking for 30 minutes per day, running a Heroes 6K, or learning to rock climb. Use the warm weather to your advantage and get outside.
- Don’t be afraid to say no
If there is a party or outing you have been invited to do, you are not obligated to go. If you feel that your sobriety will be compromised, just say no. You must take care of yourself first.
- Carry cash with you when you go out
A great way to ensure that you don’t feel tempted to buy drinks at a restaurant is to only carry cash with you and take close to the amount of cash you will need to just buy your meal. This is an easy way to ensure that you don’t buy “just one” drink or end up buying for someone else.
